Windows XP VPN Connection Setup

  1. Click on the Start button and select Control Panel.
  2. Click on Switch to Classic View.
  3. Double-click on Network Connections.
  4. Click on Create a New Connection.
  5. The New Connection Wizard will popup. Click Next.
  6. Select Connect to the network at my workplace. Click Next.
  7. Select Virtual Private Network Connection. Click Next.
  8. In the Company Name field, type Alphalink Wireless Broadband. Click Next.
  9. Under Host name or IP address enter vpn.alphalink.com.au. Click Next.
  10. You have finished setting up your VPN connection. Tick the box next to Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop. Click Finish.
  11. Double-click on your Alphalink Wireless Broadband icon.
  12. In the User name box, enter your login name (the first part of your Alphalink email address). In the Password box, type your Alphalink password. Click Properties.
  13. Under the General tab, in the Host name or IP address of destination you should have vpn.alphalink.com.au. You should also have a tick next to Show icon in notification area when connected
  14. Now Click on the Options tab. Under Dialling Options there should be ticks next to Display progress while connecting and Prompt for name and password, certificate, etc. Under Redialling options, put a tick next to Redial if line is dropped.
  15. Click on the Security tab. Put a dot next to Typical (Recommended Settings) and place a tick next to Require Data Encryption
  16. Click on the Networking tab.
  17. Under Type of VPN: select Automatic. Under This connections uses the following items, only Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) should be ticked.
  18. From the Networking Tab, click Properties. Make sure there is a dot next to both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Click Ok.
  19. Click Ok again.
  20. You should now be returned to the connection window and be ready to connect to Alphalink Wireless. Click Connect.
