Windows XP LAN Connection Setup

Before you set up your VPN connection, you need to configure the TCP/IP settings for your CPE.

  1. Click on the Start button and select Control Panel.
  2. Click on Switch to Classic View (if you aren't already in it).
  3. Double-click on Network Connections.
  4. Right-click on your Local Area Connection for your CPE. If you have a USB CPE, it will be labelled ATMEL USB FastVNET. If you have an Ethernet CPE, it will be labelled with the name of the Ethernet card it is connected to.
  5. From the menu that appears, click on Properties.
  6. You should now see the Properties of the connection. In the General tab, under This connections uses the following items, only Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) should be ticked. For security reasons, make sure that Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing are both unticked. Also make sure that QoS Packet Scheduler is unticked. If you cannot untick it, click on it once and then click Uninstall.
  7. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click Properties. Put a dot next to Use the following IP address, then enter your IP address, which will be in the form 10.x.x.x. Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0 and the Default Gateway for your node, which will be in the form 10.x.x.1. The IP address and Gateway you need to use will have been provided at the time of installation. The DNS server addresses should be Preferred DNS server: 10.0.1.2 and Alternate DNS server: 10.0.1.3
  8. Now, click Ok then Ok again.
